An unusual and unique piece of Cornish real estate with a fascinating history has become available for sale at auction after being occupied by a local family for the past 50 years. Turnstone Cottage enjoys enviable views across Smeaton’s Pier and the glorious St. Ives Harbour and Bay.

The nautical-style Grade ll Listed cottage was once home to highly regarded British abstract and figurative artist, critic and writer, Patrick Heron CBE. Heron loved the town of St Ives which influenced much of his much work including ‘Harbour Window with Two Figures : St Ives : July 1950.’ The piece, which Heron painted whilst looking out of the window of the cottage, depicts the stunning view of St Ives harbour which its new occupants will be sure to enjoy.

Heron rented the cottage from Pauline Hewitt, a well-known local St Ives artist who owned the property for more than 40 years. She could often be seen enjoying the stunning outlook from the seafront balcony and a black and white photograph shows the artist sitting with her easel and paintbrush looking across the bay taking inspiration from the view for her artwork.

Captain ‘Phil’ Moran, who wrote the famous ‘Soggy Bear’ stories, and his family have occupied the cottage for the last 50 years and now this stunning property is available to new owners to make their own memories in this piece of St Ives rich history.
