Three staff from Droitwich-based professional services firm Ballards LLP have completed a 276-mile bike ride from York to Edinburgh in aid of the charity Alzheimer’s Society.

The Ballards team rode for on average 10 hours a day over four days and traversed main roads, cycle paths, coastal and cliff paths alongside two Ballards alumni. Despite coming up against a total of four punctures and one minor fall, the team persevered and were greeted in Edinburgh on the last day by a free whiskey tasting session courtesy of the staff at Glenkinchie distillery.

Jay Gibson, Director of Real Time Accounting at Ballards LLP said, “A group of us have been completing cycle challenges both at home and abroad since 2008, raising a respectable amount for a different charity each year. York to Edinburgh certainly had its challenges – it was a beautiful ride but also quite gruelling at times, especially heading uphill into Edinburgh in torrential rain. It can be hard to get up and get back on the bike each morning when you’re feeling sore from the previous day’s ride but thinking about the important cause we were doing it for made it all worthwhile.”

Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers provide services to people affected by dementia, including day care and home care, support and befriending services across the UK. They are also dedicated to defeating dementia through research into cause, care and cure.
