An innovative new modular aluminum balustrade system is set to launch in the UK designed for residential and commercial applications. Bear Metals Ltd, the Leeds and Bradford-based balcony and balustrade manufacturer and installer, has unveiled its versatile wedge fit product which is both lighter and stronger than traditional steel balustrade systems, giving it greater longevity.

The new aluminum balustrade system is a first for the UK market and has been designed and created by Bear Metals founder Simon Mitchell.  Providing many benefits, the product never rusts; is maintenance free; contemporary in design; can be powder coated to match any colour scheme for aesthetic appeal and comes in an easy fit kit form.

Aluminium is well suited to outdoor and marine applications much better than ferrous metals so it’s a great choice for outdoor balustrades.  Installation is simple using the new system which is bolted into the floor to create a post with a wedge channel designed to house the glazing.  The product’s spacer technology also allows the installer to pre set a gap and maintain it across the entire run with ease.

The system complies with building regulation Category 1 (Residential) and Category 2 (Commercial) applications and the company plans to initially retail online; offer as part of commercial tenders, as well as target retail outlets such as garden centres to sell under own-label brands.

Simon Mitchell, Managing Director, Bear Metals Ltd commented:

“After seeing similar systems in luxury hotels around the world, I was inspired to create a British designed and engineered product for the UK market, which is now seeking out more contemporary products of this kind.  It’s great for both domestic and commercial customers as it means we have more products in our range, more variety and products that are unique to us, as well as being made in Yorkshire.”

“We can streamline manufacture in-house with this new system, as well as using CAD design and 3D printing systems, meaning we can cut it, paint it, box it and ship from our Birstall and Bradford sites.  We are excited to see how the product is received.

“We have also taken on a few additional manufacturing staff to support our investment plans for the product offer.”
