The Yan at Broadrayne, a contemporary bistro with beds, will be opening this summer, a stone’s throw away from the village of Grasmere in the heart of the Lake District. A 17th Century former farm, The Yan will have seven plush en-suite bedrooms, a rustic bistro and an open-plan lounge area.

Family-run, The Yan will epitomise Cumbrian hospitality, offering guests a wholesome welcome, hearty food and stylish interiors, making the new bistro with beds perfect for both locals and visitors alike.

The Yan will be the latest addition to the Broadrayne Farm site, which is already home to Grasmere Glamping and Broadrayne Farm Holiday Cottages. Previously an independent hostel, the The Yan is seeing an investment of over half a million pounds from Dave and Sally Keighley, who bought Broadrayne Farm in 2012. Moving to the area from Yorkshire, the couple chose Cumbria after spending numerous family weekends and holidays throughout their lifetime and owning two holiday cottages in Ambleside. Having both had successful professional careers, the plan was to semi-retire to the area. Instead, the pair have worked hard to successfully grow the Broadrayne Farm business, expanding the site’s offering with a glamping site and the refurbishment of the current self-catering cottages.

The Yan will be run by the couple’s daughter, Jess Manley and her husband Will, with Jess as Director of Operations and Will as Executive Chef. The couple moved to the area in May 2018 and both bring comprehensive international hospitality experience, with positions across Australia, Asia and Europe. Most recently, the pair worked together in the French Alps, where they managed Auberge & Chalets sur la Montagne- a privately-owned chalet company with 27 luxury chalets and a 22-bed boutique hotel. Will was the Executive Chef for the company and Jess the Area Manager and they worked to successfully turn the company from a seasonal business to a year-round holiday destination due to their high standards of service and exceptional offerings.

Since moving to The Lakes, Will has worked as a sous chef at the well-known Homeground Café in Windermere and at Michelin-starred restaurant, Forest Side whilst Jess has been working hard on both the design and details of The Yan from stylish features to special guest comforts, along with the day to day running of the cottage and glamping business.

The new venture will see the addition of a food offering at the site with the bistro open to both overnight guests of The Yan and passers by. The casual yet classy eatery will be serving seasonal, hearty dishes inspired by the farm’s rich history. Using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients as the focal point the menu will contain rustic Cumbrian classics and nostalgic British favourites. Each dish will incorporate contemporary twists, with sharing plates used to add to the social feel of the bistro. The bistro will be open all day, with breakfast and day-time menus available.

The centre-piece to The Yan will be an open-plan bistro and lounge area, with the area combining elements of old and new to create a contrasting yet welcoming environment – a theme that will run throughout the interior design. Each of the seven plush en-suite bedrooms will each have views of the surrounding feels and their own individual characteristics, mirroring both the unique surrounding landscape and quirks of the historic building. Varying in size, the en-suite bedrooms will range from cosy doubles to spacious suites that will sleep up to four, catering to the needs of individuals, couples and groups.

The Yan will open in July 2019 with room rates starting from £90 per night for a Standard Room and £110 for a Deluxe Room. For more information please visit www.theyan.co.uk
