Wheatley Place, Shirley as styled by Edward Thomas Interiors

House hunters looking to retire to the sought-after Solihull suburb of Shirley can now take inspiration from the newly designed show suite and wider complex.

Specialist interior design firm, Edward Thomas Interiors has completed installation of no less than 11 different spaces at Wheatley Place, the latest development from retirement living developer, McCarthy Stone.

“This imaginative development for the over 70s is designed to engender a true sense of community, and our brief for the interiors was really to echo this,” explains Edward Thomas Interiors’ director and co-founder, Steve Hird. “Our styling uses current interior trends such as panelling and feature wallpapering alongside pastels, botanicals and geometric shapes to create a modern yet age-appropriate environment.

“Particular highlights for us are the arts and crafts room, where we added a feature wallpaper with rows of Japanese artisanal pottery in bold shades of indigo, ivory and jade; and the bistro which has a soft pink and aqua colour palette, metallic frame furniture and chandelier light fitting reminiscent of a top department store restaurant.”

Additional spaces designed and styled by Edward Thomas Interiors at Wheatley Place include two show apartments, including one with home office, a guest suite, homeowners’ lounge with bespoke honesty bar, hairdressing salon, exercise studio, private dining room and roof terrace.

Cheryl Bissett, Divisional Sales and Marketing Director (Midlands) at McCarthy Stone commented: “Wheatley Place is a flagship for us, showcasing the high-quality apartments, facilities and lifestyle that homeowners can enjoy when they choose to move with McCarthy Stone. Edward Thomas Interiors’ designs are eye-catching, colourful and thoughtful, so much so that we’ve been using this development for sales meetings and demonstrations as it perfectly captures the standard we expect.

“We held the show suite’s official launch last month and it was fantastic to see potential residents interacting and enjoying the spaces. In fact, I think Steve was in high demand for further home furnishing tips and design inspiration!” Concluded Cheryl.
