A global coffee chain has revealed it is opening a cafe in Leamington town centre for the first time.
Esquires Coffee has signed a ten-year lease at a ground floor 2,200 sq feet unit at 52-54 Warwick Street, which used to be home to the former Co-op store.
The coffee chain is expected to open its doors by the end of the year – creating nine jobs – and comes hot on the heels of news that Dodo Pizza will be opening its doors in the neighbouring unit over the coming weeks.
Esquires Coffee was founded in Canada in 1993 and focuses on sustainability and social responsibility; the company recycles whenever possible, uses only Fairtrade & Organic coffee, and all fruit and vegetables are locally and sustainably grown where possible. Esquires Coffee supports the local community wherever it can, by using independent and family run suppliers from the region.
The firm began its expansion into the UK and Ireland at the turn of the century, and is now in more than 60 locations across the UK and Ireland – including in Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Their Leamington coffee house will initially provide a takeaway service, before eventually offering a dine-in service once government guidelines allow, offering a range of premium beverage and food options.
Martin Brown, owner of Esquires Coffee in Leamington, said: “Leamington is a forward-looking and exciting town, whose residents are increasingly looking for both an ethical and fresh offering.
“We look forward to bringing excellent and consistent quality, with a unique menu that will delight customers of all ages and tastes.”
Commercial property consultants Wareing & Company secured the deal on behalf of the building’s landlords Hatchback Developments.
Jonathan Blood, of Wareing & Company, added: “Working on the go is becoming increasingly prevalent, and combined with the student population, I expect Esquires Coffee to really take off in Leamington over the coming years as a leading destination to study, work and socialise.
“Esquires Coffee is the second global firm that has committed to long-term investment in Leamington in as many months – with the other being European pizza chain Dodo Pizza – which is a brilliant vote of confidence in the town as the wider country looks to bounce back from the Coronavirus pandemic in 2021.”
