The Hare & Hounds, Levens launches exciting new spring-summer menu

The Hare & Hounds in Levens, is launching its spring-summer menu this month. The much-loved local inn, based near the Lakeland town of Kendal will showcase some of Cumbria’s freshest ingredients, focusing on both locality and seasonality. The menu will include a range of comforting classic dishes, alongside Mediterranean style sharing boards, a mouth-watering selection of burgers and authentic hand-rolled Italian pizzas.

The spring-summer menu embraces the warmer seasons by incorporating in-season local ingredients and combining them with fresh, summer flavours. Local ingredient highlights include Westmorland damsons, Cumbrian ham, Barnsley lamb and Lancashire cheese. The menu includes starters such as chicken liver parfait on toast accompanied by Cumberland ‘Sneck Lifter’ chutney, or pan fried scallops with Bury black pudding, butternut squash puree and peas shoots. The main dishes on the menu follow the same onus on local ingredients with dishes such as pork & damson sausages with black pudding mash potato, served with damson and onion gravy, and crispy oat coated melting goats cheese on a mixed leaf salad with spiced squash, roquito peppers, couscous, and avocado, topped with a zesty tahini and lemon dressing. The dessert menu is full of decadent yet summery dishes, where customers can choose from favourites such as homemade sticky toffee pudding served with luxury gingerbread ice cream or  passion fruit panna cotta with pineapple, crushed meringue, drizzled with a chili and lime syrup.

Well known in the area for their delicious hand-rolled pizzas, The Hare and Hounds have introduced a limited edition charity pizza to the new menu. The fusion pizza is  topped with an Asian Teriyaki salmon and stir-fried vegetables. £1 from every limited edition pizza sold is donated to Kendal-based mental health charity, Growing Well. This is the third year the pub have done a charity pizza and is now an important part of the pub’s continued commitment to help local charities.

Head Chef Allan Kay comments: “The new menu showcases our range of hearty cuisine on offer at the Hare & Hounds. It combines classic dishes with summer flavours using this season’s ripest ingredients. It is perfect to be enjoyed both inside our dining area or, with the weather improving,  our newly landscaped beer garden on a sunny day.”

While enjoying the delights of the new menu, guests can also enjoy a diverse selection of drinks, including a mean list of cocktails and local ales that are a cut above the average. Whether guests fancy a refreshing lager such as an Estrella, something from the extensive  wine list, a traditional cocktail made with locally produced spirits or a gluten free pale, there’s something to suit all tastes.

The Hare & Hounds also boasts a lively bar and dining area with spectacular Lakeland views, and boutique accommodation designed for lazy lie-ins. This thriving watering hole is the only place for miles around that serves food all day, seven days a week. Run by Ash and Becky Dewar, who bought the pub in 2013 after previously managing an All Bar One in London and they have been lovingly taking care of it ever since.

Easily reached from the M6, the A590, and Oxenholme train station, the Hare & Hounds offers complete seclusion and relaxation without the rates of a large hotel. The barn annexe is priced £150 per night bed and breakfast. Bed and breakfast rooms within the main pub start from £85 per night.
