Home Bargains, Chard

Home Bargains has invested approximately £1 million in its new store in Chard, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 19th June 2021.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 43 new jobs in the local community with its store on Boden Street. In total, the store will employ 49 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity, Chard WATCH, a community interest company that reaches out and engages with isolated adults needing to connect with others in their community. The charity was founded in 2010 by members of the Chard Intentional Peer Support Group and continues to be built around the lived experience of members to help them form sound peer friendships which extend in their local area and the wider community.

Julie Matthews, CEO of Chard WATCH, said: “Chard WATCH is delighted to receive this donation from Home Bargains as every donation makes a huge difference to our project which grew from the grassroots within Chard. The donation will go to support our beneficiaries at our Thursday project which is held at Chard Rugby Club every week and we look forward to supporting Home Bargains as a new business within our community.”

The new Somerset store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Ben Doyle, the new Chard store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Chard store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.

“Having started my Home Bargains journey just over 3 years ago as a supervisor, it’s amazing to now be in this position. Helping to launch the new Boden Street store will be a huge accomplishment for both myself and my fantastic team.”

The 13,207 sq ft store, which formerly housed Lidl, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Ben added: “Boden Way will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
