Home Bargains has invested approximately £1 million in its new store in Romford which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 24th July 2021.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 66 new jobs in the local community with its store on Eastern Avenue Retail Park. In total, the store will employ 70 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity S.M.I.L.E London & Essex, which helps local disadvantaged families living in financial crises. S.M.I.L.E, which stands for Support, Motivate, Invest, Lead and Evolve, provides practical support with food, clothing and daily resources. Also, at expensive times of the year, like Christmas, the new school year and prom, the charity runs dedicated appeals to ensure no child is left behind and isolated from their peers.

Maria Quaife, Chief Executive of S.M.I.L.E London & Essex, said: “The past year has been unlike any other and coronavirus has hit our communities hard. Many already face new challenges including financial worries, insecure employment or job loss, health concerns, increasing incidents of domestic violence, as well as isolation from family and friends.

“This year the support from external organisations has been more important than ever. We are so grateful for being selected by the staff at Home Bargains in Romford as their chosen charity. The incredible generosity and support will go a long way to make sure those struggling do not feel alone and will allow our charity to operate to its fullest potential.”

The new Romford store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Patrycja Kowalczuk, the new Romford store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new store in Romford this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of. Having started my Home Bargains journey just over three years ago, it’s amazing to now be in this position. And, although I’ve held the position of store manager before, helping to launch the new Eastern Avenue Retail Park site will be a first for me.”

The 17,341 sq ft store, which formerly housed Poundstretcher, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Patrycja added: “Eastern Avenue Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
