With many Cambridgeshire residents looking ahead to the future now Coronavirus restrictions have eased, 56% of people living in the county have revealed that they’d consider future proofing when moving home.

A recent survey, conducted by Barratt and David Wilson Homes*, disclosed that residents in the area would prioritise buying a bigger home now to accommodate a growing family and their changing needs in the future.

As trends such as multi-generational living continue to rise, investing in a larger property now could also ensure that buyers have the space they may need if their parents moved in with them at some stage.

Another benefit of securing more room now is that the rooms not currently needing to be occupied can be used as a home office, spare room for hobbies or as a space for storage.

Annette Hurst, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We’ve witnessed a huge shift in the priorities of homebuyers over the past couple of years due to the pandemic changing what’s most important to us so this result is no surprise to us.

“Future proofing with a move now is a great way to ensure that your property can accommodate any changes in years to come, as we all know how important it is to have our families close to us.

“By prioritising space now, property seekers have a great opportunity to secure a bigger home whilst mortgage rates are low, and will be able to stay in this much longer than if they were to need to upsize a couple of years down the line.”

Barratt Homes is currently building properties in Cambridgeshire at Hampton Water in Peterborough, Romans’ Edge in Godmanchester, Darwin Green in Cambridge and Trumpington Meadows in Trumpington.

David Wilson Homes is also currently building in Cambridgeshire at Romans’ Edge, Darwin Green and Trumpington Meadows. It also has homes available to reserve at Warboys in Warboys, Northstowe near Cambridge, Ramsey Park in Ramsey and Needingworth Park in Needingworth.
