Morgan Sindall Construction has again demonstrated its commitment to creating an impact within the local community of Chesterfield as a part of its build programme for the new Jewson branch in the town.

Through various events such as a charity football match, a charity cricket match and a fundraiser, Morgan Sindall Construction has raised vital funds for Ashgate Hospicecare, a charity that provides compassionate, specialist palliative and end of life care to patients with a life-limiting illness and their families across North Derbyshire.

Morgan Sindall Construction has now donated five smart TVs, SAMSUNG UE32T4300AKXXU 32″ Smart HD Ready HDR LED TV, in line with the hospice’s demand for more televisions to kit out patients’ bedrooms. The new TVs will help to make time spent at Ashgate Hospicecare as comfortable as possible for patients and their families.

Last year over £12,000 was raised for Ashgate Hospicare, following a charity football match held at Chesterfield Football Club’s Technique Stadium in June. In a bid to create a real impact within the local community, the match was organised by Chesterfield-local Richard Harding, head of pre-construction for Yorkshire and North East at Morgan Sindall Construction.

The new branch is close to completion. Morgan Sindall Construction was appointed by Chesterfield Borough Council for the project, which was procured through the Pagabo Medium Framework in 2021 and will replace Jewson’s former home in the town, which is no longer suitable due to the impact of works associated with the HS2 Station Master Plan.

The £4.4m facility will be a one-stop shop for tradespeople, and will feature a vast supply of building materials, a customer sales area and storage facility.

Matt Appleyard, project manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “As a team, and a company, we’re all invested in the surrounding community of the new Jewson branch, so it’s an absolute pleasure to facilitate much-needed donations to such a worthy cause.”

Morgan Sindall Construction is also taking part in another fundraising football match, held on 19th May: Morgan Sindall Construction FC vs Consultant Professionals FC. The match will take place at Chesterfield Football Club’s Technique Stadium.

Matt continued: “Ashgate Hospicecare has been on our radar since 2021 when we initially raised £12,000 through a football match, so it’s a privilege to be able to uphold our commitment and continue to support the hospice. We look forward to driving more donations in the summer when we take part in the next charity football match.”

The match will be held on behalf of The Chair’s Appeal, represented by Martin Thacker MBE and supported by Chesterfield Football Club and Chesterfield Community Trust. Kicking off at 6pm, participants Mott MacDonald, Edge, Curtins, WT Partnership, HLM Architects, Turner Townsend, Whittam Cox, Edge and Bond Bryan will be in attendance as Morgan Sindall Construction take on a select group of Professional Consultants within the Chesterfield and Sheffield Region.

This special event will be open to all, with free access to come along to watch and support the event enabled in order contribute to creating an exciting atmosphere.

As part of its wider plan to positively impact the local community in Chesterfield, Morgan Sindall Construction commenced work with Chesterfield College in 2021 on a programme of activities to demonstrate to students the many different opportunities that a career in construction can offer. The programme consisted of virtual talks on the works being delivered at the Jewson site, and in person site tours for craft trade and technical students.

Morgan Sindall Construction also supported Destination Chesterfield’s Made in Chesterfield campaign to celebrate local manufacturing and STEM industries with site visits and career events in local secondary schools such as Outwood Newbold Academy, Shirebrook Academy and Bolsover School.
