Nearly 50 golfers teed off for a great cause and raised £4,750 for youth homelessness charity St Basils at Wolverhampton logistics firm Pallet-Track’s annual golf day.
The 15th staging of the event took place in scorching conditions at Morley Hayes Golf Club in Derbyshire on Tuesday (September 7), after an enforced year off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The day featured 47 golfers from 12 teams, made up of colleagues from Pallet-Track’s headquarters, its network members and partner organisations.
Taking the honours on the day were The Mockney Cockneys, with golfers Peter Eason, Russell Newman, Syed Ziaullah and Ashley Grace from Pallet-Track’s London member ELB Partners and Northampton and Milton Keynes member Action Express.
This year’s runners-up were Allports and its golfers Paul Sanders, Graeme Wilson, Gary Swan and Paul Reading, with SSO Logistics taking third with golfers Peter Draper, Neil Draper, Richard Bison and John Fearn.
As with all its fundraising activities in 2021, the day was held in support of Pallet-Track’s nominated charity, St Basils.
St Basils is based in Digbeth, Birmingham and is one of the UK’s leading charities working to support young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Caroline Green, chief executive of Pallet-Track, said: “Like many charities, St Basils has seen its fundraising efforts hit by the pandemic – but it has faced this challenge head on and still managed to raise £1.1 million in 2020.
“We were delighted to get our golf day back up-and-running after its cancellation last year and we know the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of young people supported by St Basils.
“Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our team, we have already raised more than £10,000 this year with events such as our Hub-to-Hub cycle ride and the golf day. We’ve also set up donation stations around the business and our members have really embraced St Basils as our nominated charity.”
Barrie Hodge, head of fundraising and communications at St Basils, said: “The partnership between St Basils and Pallet-Track is one which has given me particular joy. I’ve been delighted with the way the whole team have embraced our cause and what we are trying to achieve for young people experiencing homelessness in the West Midlands.
“To put the amount Pallet-Track has raised into context, it costs us £5 per young person per night. Pallet-Track’s efforts have enabled us to offer 2,000 nights of support for young people so far. That’s young people who are learning the skills so they can live, learn, earn and work and contribute to the communities they live in.”
