A new appointee to the Wolverhampton City Credit Union’s board of directors is aiming to support members with their financial health.
Anthony Burns is the Commercial Director at Paycare: Health Cash Plan specialists based in the heart of the city. And such is his dedication to supporting community health and happiness, that he has now taken on a voluntary role with the Credit Union (WCCU).
WCCU is a financial co-operative owned and controlled by its members, who all live, work, volunteer or study within a WV postcode area.
The organisation is a not-for-profit, just as Paycare is, and its mission is to ‘give members a brighter financial future by providing ethical, honest and fair financial co-operative’.
Anthony said he was motivated to apply for the board member position because of the alignment between the purpose of WCCU and the purpose of Paycare – which was first set up in 1874 to support the city’s factory workers with the cost of everyday healthcare.
“Having worked with corporate clients on their wellbeing agenda for many years, I am fully aware of the positive effects a good wellbeing strategy can have on the productivity and overall success of a business and its people.
“And a key part of any individual’s wellbeing is good financial education and access to ethical finance.
“As well as helping to raise the profile of WCCU through my existing network, I’d like to provide a supportive perspective on how we could continue to build on the union’s successes, and in turn help support more people within our community to be more fulfilled, more creative, and more secure.”
WCCU’s CEO Rob Shearing added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ant to the Board at WCCU, his skills and expertise will be of great value as we navigate our way out of the pandemic and continue our good work in the communities of Wolverhampton.
