Behind an unassuming door above a busy Leeds street, HOME is a haven of warm hospitality, bold seasonal flavours and relaxed refinement.

Launched in 2017 by Masterchef semi-finalist Elizabeth Cottam and Michelin- starred Head Chef Mark Owens, HOME swiftly made its mark on the Leeds restaurant scene through its unique take on fine dining. This Spring, the restaurant is offering guests distinctive menus bursting with the vibrant energy of each month.

Redefining outdated notions surrounding fine dining, HOME reimagines familiar British flavours using amazing local produce. A love for the surrounding landscape and the produce it provides is the source of inspiration for ‘The Season’ menus at HOME. Drawing on hyper-local ingredients and seasonal flavours, HOME introduces a new menu each month, bringing ingredients to the plate precisely when it’s their time to shine. As always with HOME’s menus, guests will be embraced by familiar flavours, but pleasantly surprised by a few unexpected touches along the way.

‘The Season’ menu for April sings with Spring flavours and produce. Lamb, peas and asparagus take centre stage, but in unusual guise, while a crispy rabbit stew dumpling with wild garlic buttermilk perfectly captures the season. Focusing on April’s endless fresh bounty, pungent fresh herbs and liquorice are complemented by more delicate flavours, like Verbena and white tea.

Examples from ‘The Season’ tasting menu for April include:

  • Lamb and Asparagus – lamb cheek, dripping crumb, pickled asparagus
  • Potato soufflé – confit truffled ratte potatoes, split barolo sauce
  • Duck – salt aged duck with artichokes, honey and fennel pollen – Rhubarb & Ginger – pain perdu, rhubarb, sherry ice cream

‘The Season’ tasting menu is presented in around 10 dishes and is priced at £65-£90 per person. On lunchtimes and weekday evenings HOME offers ‘The Selection’, a condensed menu of ‘The Season’s’ dishes available for £45- £55 per person. Each menu is meticulously planned with a complementary wine pairing.

Chef and co-owner Liz approaches the wine as she would an ingredient, complementing flavours and making sure that it enhances the whole experience of the dish. HOME offers two distinct wine flights, the Signature (£45/£55) as well as the Premium wine flight which comprises a number of highly allocated, vintage, and rare wines (£60/£95).

Co-owners Liz and Mark have approached the restaurant industry from very different paths. Liz, a former MasterChef semi-finalist in 2016, quickly furthered her newfound chef career through working placements at prestigious restaurants and a successful residency at The New Ellington Hotel in Leeds. Mark began his professional career in the 2 Michelin star Le Gavroche, then worked as sous chef at The Star at Harome, before most recently running the kitchen as Head Chef at one-starred The Box Tree where his team retained the star for yet another year in 2017. Having met while working at The Box Tree in Ilkley, the pair were united by a shared belief that fine dining doesn’t have to be stuffy. By focusing on the people rather than just the food, HOME has grown a loyal following, and by nurturing a warm, welcoming environment in both the restaurant and the kitchen, Liz and Mark have created wonderful dining experiences that their guests will remember fondly forever.
