A member of the team at the UK’s leading online flooring retailer has signed up to serve the city he loves during its year in the spotlight.
Stephen Crowe, an account manager in the sales team at UK Flooring Direct – which has offices in Hinckley and Coventry – has put himself forward to be a City Host during Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture.
Stephen has been assigned the role as a Team Leader and will be supporting events throughout the year which is running from May 2021 through to May 2022.
And, not content with a year of supporting Coventry 2021, he’s also thrown his hat into the ring to become a volunteer for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.
He said: “I am from Earlsdon in Coventry originally and it’s my city. I love it.
“I was thrilled when we won the UK City of Culture title and it’s great to be able to volunteer to be part of it.
“I have a good friend in Hull who volunteered when they were the UK City of Culture and I went up to see him a few times during the year. It was great for Hull but it was also great for him too. He got so much out of it in terms of confidence and self-esteem.
“It’s been great to see all of the publicity about the start of UK City of Culture in Coventry and I can’t wait to be part of it. The team here at UK Flooring Direct is really supportive, which is one of the best things about working here – there is a great culture within the business.
“After UK City of Culture, I am hoping to be part of Birmingham 2022. I love sport and just thought, ‘why not?’ These opportunities don’t come around very often.”
UK Flooring Direct employs more than 200 people, selling more than 250 products including wood and laminate flooring to both retail and trade customers via its website. It aims to grow to 380 staff by the end of 2022 and was recently assessed and rated as ‘One to Watch’ by Best Companies Index.
