The VW bar

A classic car loving entrepreneur in North Warwickshire could find themselves in the driving seat of a unique mobile bar as the owners of Split Smiths put their business on the market.

Established in 2018, Split Smiths is a retro mobile bar created from an original 1966 split screen VW camper van, which has been transformed inside and out by specialist converters. It is for sale with Hilton Smythe Business Advisers.

The current owners started the business to marry up their love of classic cars, their experience in the hospitality industry and a desire to travel.

In the three years the couple has owned Split Smiths, they have visited car shows, anniversaries, festivals, weddings, markets and business launches.

The new owners of the business would not only purchase the VW van, but also a Ford Transit, a barlok pop up bar, a gazebo and shelter and additional bar equipment.

The owners said: “We’ve absolutely loved our Split Smiths adventure, but we have a number of businesses, and we just don’t have the time to devote to it anymore. It’s a fantastic job to have and we know the right new owner will make a huge success of it.

“The business is well established, has a huge following on social media, and is very popular with classic car enthusiasts. If someone likes a drink with a quirky, retro vibe, we’re there!

“In addition to the physical assets, the new owners will be buying our advice and knowledge, because we’ve learned a lot in the past three years, and we’re keen to help the new owners hit the ground running.

“There’s high demand with bookings and enquiries – we keep having to turn engagements down – and there’s uncapped earnings, so it’s going to be a goldmine for someone who can dedicate their full time to it.”

Gareth Smyth, CEO of Hilton Smythe Group, said: “Throughout the pandemic, more people than ever want to take control of their career and work for themselves. We’ve seen buyer enquiries increase three-fold since 2019 as people hunt for their dream business.

“Split Smiths is a fantastic opportunity for a buyer because it already has a client base and a heavy calendar of events. We’re delighted that the current owners are also keen to mentor the buyer, because their knowledge is worth its weight in gold.

“We’re serving up a unique business opportunity to a potential new owner, and we can’t wait to see who speeds off with it!”
