Energy Saving Bear, leaders in energy management solutions, has recently undergone a complete brand transformation working with the brand team at Harrison, 360 degree global branding specialist. Founded in 2022, the team at Energy Saving Bear wanted a fresh and impactful evolved brand identity which reflected both their business purpose and to reinforce their commitment to providing building owners, managers, and consultants with the precise energy data needed to make informed investments – turning data into action.

Energy Saving Bear – previously Our Property Bear – was founded by Jamie Greig in March 2022, with the vision of helping business leaders, initially in the hospitality and education space, understand their energy consumption. Delving deeper, he uncovered the harsh reality that, with the other demands of running a business, many operators didn’t have the time or resources to truly understand the breakdown of their energy consumption. By understanding which equipment is typically the biggest drain on energy and pinpointing anomalies, the team works with businesses to turn energy data into action by identifying the 20% of equipment responsible for 80% of energy usage and then create tailored and – crucially – simple solutions designed to cut consumption, whilst providing ROI calculations for a wide range of impactful and measurable savings.

Working with Harrison, Jamie and the team wanted to evolve the brand to reflect the business growth and to address the critical challenge the previous name ‘Our Property Bear’ posed. Often leading potential customers to believe their service was property management, by stripping the business back, Harrison worked with the team to undercover and understand their core values of the business, positioning and proposition to clients, USPs and their commitment to the planet. Through this rigorous process, Energy Saving Bear was born.

‘Energy Saving Bear’ reflects the business’ proposition much more clearly – the team install energy monitors and links to current meters to gain a comprehensive insight into a business’ energy consumption. This allows a clear 24/7 overview of consumption and the ability to generate significant savings. The bear is a great icon for hunting for energy savings while also symbolising the company’s commitment to tackling climate change and fighting for something more than just saving money – cutting consumptions cuts carbon emissions too.

The team at Harrison:

  • Developed the brand strategy, new name, logo, photographic imagery, letterhead and other marketing collateral for Energy Saving Bear – taking the heart of the business and translating it into a tangible proposition which is simple to understand from the get-go.
  • Created a new narrative and tone of voice for the business – the team want to be seen as experts in their space but approachable.
  • A new website – to create a client and prospect-facing space which can clearly communicate the brand proposition.

Jamie Greig, CEO of Energy Saving Bear says “Think about when you go to visit the doctor with a problem. They will take a number of different measurements which, combined with questions, will help the doctor diagnose and treat us effectively. But what if the doctor could only ask questions? Would they still find a cure? This analogy applies to buildings too. Energy monitors act as vital signs trackers for buildings, highlighting areas that are healthy or need attention. We then step in and turn those results and the data into action. You can have all of the data in the world, but if you don’t know how to turn it into action it’s essentially useless.

“We have worked hard over the last two years to help a number of businesses understand their energy consumption, prioritise the changes which will have the biggest impact, and implement a tailored plan based on priorities, budget and timelines. We don’t just install the tech and run away, we’re there to help businesses make savings. And we wanted to ensure what we present to the outside world – our brand – reflected this too.

“The change from Our Property Bear to Energy Saving Bear has been a pivotal moment for the business. It symbolises a renewed commitment to helping businesses uncover hidden energy savings and achieve greater efficiency. With a clear focus on our mission and enhanced clarity in our messaging, we are excited about the future and the vast possibilities that lie ahead. This transformation not only reflects who we are but also positions us to connect with more clients and make a significant impact in their energy management efforts.”

Richard Samarasinghe, Head of Strategy at Harrison says “When Our Property Bear first approached us, they had this incredible business aim but the challenge of no one understanding who they were or what they did from their brand name. Much like us, they are a business which works hand-in-hand with the hospitality industry, so we felt a lot of synergy with them. Together, we peeled back the layers in order to build them back up again, working together to not create a completely new company, but to create a fresh and evolved identity and personality which better reflects the business which has been there all along. The result is a clearer understanding of who Energy Saving Bear are as both a business and as a service.”

Through their Energy Monitoring system, Energy Saving Bear can transform energy data into practical insights using user-friendly monitors, intuitive software, and offer continuous support. This support is key, and businesses understand the savings they can achieve from sourcing the problem and finding the correct solution. Since 2022, Energy Saving Bear has installed over 600 energy monitors across the UK.

Energy Saving Bear is committed to helping businesses optimise energy usage and achieve significant cost savings, all while contributing to a greener planet.
