Salon of the Year winners - KH Hair Arnold and Castle Gate salon teams

The KH Hair Awards have become the biggest night of the calendar for the salon group’s 20 East Midlands salons. This year was no exception as 200+ staff and VIP guests from Wella and ghd came together to celebrate the achievements of its top performing teams and individuals.

The much-anticipated event took place on 9 June on the outdoor terrace at Binks Yard in Nottingham City Centre where group managing director, Darren Messias, began by acknowledging 13 individuals for their long service to the company, before 22 awards were handed out in recognition of the past year’s top achievers.

Always the most coveted accolade of the night, ‘Salon of the Year,’ was awarded jointly to the Group’s Nottingham and Arnold salons for their excellent performances in customer service, turnover and retail sales. It wasn’t the only walk to the stage for the Nottingham team who collected an impressive haul of six trophies including Salon Highest Turnover. There was also recognition for 2nd year apprentice, Sophie Taylor, who came out on top in her training competition.

Co-director, Debbie McMenamin, who runs the salon with husband Sean, says that scooping six awards, plus achieving a further eight 2nd and 3rd placings was just incredible. “The Salon of the Year Award is testament to our team’s collective effort, dedication and support of each other,” she says. “They are brilliant every day and we are so appreciative of every single one of them. They truly deserve this recognition and, of course, we are truly grateful to every client who has stepped through our door over the years. Thank you for choosing us and trusting us with your hair.”

The KH Hair Arnold team were also frequent visitors to the winners’ podium as they picked up five more accolades including the hotly fought Image of the Year Award, which was judged by Jordanna Cobella, Colin McAndrew and Dom Capel. Salon manager, Helen Stilwell was triumphant in the Individual Turnover category and newly qualified stylist, Amelia Krasinski, was named at this year’s Rising Star.

Arnold’s salon director, Dawn Bramhall, says she is super proud of her team’s achievements. “The hard work and dedication of my team never fails to amaze me,” she says. “Everyone pulls together to support each other to become the very best they can be. It’s an absolute privilege to work with a group of like-minded people who genuinely enjoy each other’s company, and this certainly shows on the salon floor where there is always a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A massive thank you also to our wonderful and loyal clients. We couldn’t do it without you!”

Also celebrating on the night were the team at KH Hair Ripley in Derbyshire who scooped three awards including the Salon Service Award and the Salon Retail Improvement Award sponsored by Sebastian. First year apprentice, Ellie Copeland, was announced the winner in her training competition.

When all awards were safely collected and, despite the rain threatening to put a damper on the evening, guests were entertained by international touring beatboxers and world champions The Beatbox Collective. Following the show, guests were invited to eat, drink, be merry, and dance the night away to end a perfect evening of celebration and recognition.

Group MD Darren says it was an honour to celebrate the achievements of the teams and individuals who work across KH Hair’s 20 salons. “They all deserve to be recognised because of the hard work, passion and commitment they show on a day-to-day basis,” he says. “And I am so proud they are part of the KH Hair family. The foundations of our business are based on creativity, consistency and fantastic customer service and I feel it’s only right to recognise and reward any individuals and teams who have excelled over the past twelve months. Many congratulations to all the winners and runners up.”
