A North Tyneside-based seaweed company continues to grow at an impressive rate, doubling their headcount in the last six months alone.

Seaweed & Co. – a company set on delivering natural health and wellness through seaweed – has recently completed another round of recruitment to help keep up with increased demand for their seaweed ingredients and finished product brand.

Their most recent hire – Food Technology Associate, Sarah Hall – joins the company to help support the continued research and development that is advancing the companies market leading position and delivering health benefits for consumers.

This recent addition also follows the announcement of Mario Patrocollo as Chairman earlier this year, who’s joined to help drive the next phase of growth for the business. Mario holds numerous board positions and is advisor to the COO International of Walgreens Boots Alliance.

Seaweed & Co. was founded in 2015 by marine biologist Dr Craig Rose (aka Doctor Seaweed®) and offers the numerous nutritional benefits of seaweed to consumers in easy, convenient, and highly appealing ways. Its range of PureSea® seaweed ingredients is supplied globally to food companies and nutrition brands including PepsiCo, and its Doctor Seaweed’s Weed & Wonderful® range of supplements can be found in the likes of Boots, Holland & Barrett and QVC amongst others.

Increasing demand suggests that the UK is on board with the rising seaweed trend and bringing on greater technical resource will help the company stay ahead of the markets demand for new innovations. Founder and CEO Craig said “we are experiencing incredible growth, and the rise in demand means we need to expand the team, with more to come soon.  It is an extremely exciting time for the company, and seaweed more broadly as it is a sustainable resource that meets so many market demands.”

With the seaweed industry globally worth nearly $17billion in 2020, and set for over $30billion by 2025, having high value innovation in the sector from a sustainable UK company will bring benefit to manufacturers and consumers alike.
