Animal science and artificial intelligence among hot topics as Chester Zoo hosts trail blazing businesses at Cheshire Science Corridor relaunch
Saving animals from extinction, artificial intelligence and decarbonising homes will be among hot topics when trail blazing businesses and world leading innovators help shape a blueprint to ensure the Cheshire Science Corridor continues to shine on the world stage.
Home to over 7,000 businesses, The Cheshire Science Corridor, stretches 40 miles along the M56 from Capenhurst to Macclesfield and is home to world class science and technology assets including Alderley Park, the UK’s largest single life sciences campus, Daresbury Sci-Tech, home to the UK’s fastest industrial supercomputer, Birchwood Park, the UK’s centre for nuclear engineering and Origin in Ellesmere Port, where the ambition is to create the World’s first Net Zero industrial cluster,
In recent months the Cheshire Science Corridor, led by Cheshire and Warrington LEP, has been boosted by the formal additions of both Chester Zoo and the University of Liverpool – both forging relationships with public and private sector partners and utilising their collective expertise to create a regional cluster in Animal Health Sciences.
And today it was confirmed the Cheshire Science Corridor will be officially relaunched under the banner “A place with more possibilities…” at a symposium taking place at Chester Zoo on Wednesday, September 13.
A series of inspiring TED-style talks covering everything from artificial intelligence to zoo conservation will be given by industry and education leaders to provide first-hand insight into the exciting research and development that is positioning Cheshire as a world-class community for Science and Technology.
The 100 or so expected attendees will be urged to help shape the Cheshire Science Corridor’s future blueprint and build on the pioneering work and collaborations underway as part of an unflinching ambition to put it on the world stage.

- Simon Dowell, Conservation Science Director, Chester Zoo
- Mathieu Isidro, Communications and Outreach Manager at Square Kilometre Array based at Jodrell Bank
- Prof. Paul Lunn, Dean of the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool’s Leahurst Campus in Neston
- Dr Kath Mackay, Director of Life Sciences at Bruntwood SciTech and Director of its Alderley Park campus- the UK’s largest single site life sciences campus
- Denise Massey, Managing Director, Energy Innovation Centre, Ellesmere Port
- Dave Roberts, Managing Director, of Capenhurst-based EA Technology’s VisNet business
- Madison Rose, the CEO and Founder of Aspedan, a Cheshire-based digital health start-up
- Yulanda Duff, Founder and Director, The Millennial Introvert Lifestyle and Co-Chair, Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership Engagement Board
The event will be hosted by Clare Hayward MBE DL, chair of the Cheshire and Warrington LEP and Chair of the NP11 group of northern Local Enterprise Partnerships who said: “From the UK’s largest and best invested bioscience campus at Alderley Park where 23 new drugs have been discovered and developed over the last 70 years to Europe’s centre for nuclear engineering consultancies at Birchwood Park, the Cheshire Science Corridor is a hotbed of science, technology and engineering, a phenomenal cluster of scientific talent, world-class innovators who are forging new discoveries that are revolutionising industry, energy, health and space.

Running from 9am to 3pm, the event will also include panel session, complimentary lunch and guests will have free entry to the Zoo after the symposium.
