Digital Knowledge Lab, in partnership with York St John University and digital marketing agency Mediaworks, is launching the latest in its series of record-breaking free online Digital Marketing short courses.

Starting on January 6th the programme aims to improve one of the digital marketing industry’s biggest skill gaps. The upcoming short course will look at all elements of social media marketing, including approaching social media from a strategic perspective, relevant content creation, identifying target audiences and measuring campaign impacts.

The course is designed to support marketers who may have been small business owners looking to maximise opportunities in the current landscape, or graduates and workers looking to upskill or seeking a career change as well as those who may have been previously made redundant.

The free course aims to support career growth, with all participants gaining the insight and knowledge of social media marketing whilst achieving a certificate of completion from York St. John University.

Previous short courses operated by Digital Knowledge Lab, which has featured speakers from experts at Mediaworks, York St John and regular guest marketers have attracted over 15,000 attendees, many of which have gone on to enrol in the Digital Marketing master’s degree provided by the collective, in turn leading to a number of graduates gaining promotions and more senior roles.

According to LinkedIn, Social Media Manager is one of the most in-demand marketing occupations following the digital growth of the past 24 months but is facing an industry skills shortage due to the rapid pace at which the business-world has adopted the use of social platforms.

Rei Khan, course director for Digital Knowledge Lab said: “We saw a huge uptake in the previous short courses, with learners from all backgrounds and sectors, and we’re delighted to be opening this opportunity up again to anyone looking to upskill or for a change in direction.

“The flexibility of the online courses offers a brilliant method for anyone looking to study remotely, but with the in-depth knowledge of academics and real-time expertise of industry specialists. The evolving digital landscape has seen an increase in social media use for business, with the pandemic altering our way of living and consumers adapted by flocking to digital platforms and social media – a trend that will only accelerate further.”

After undertaking the short course, all learners receive a certificate of completion which can be used as evidence of continued professional development (CPD). The course is also designed to be an introduction to the Digital Marketing and Data Analytics MSc, which learners can sign up to upon finishing the two-week taster course.
