Simpson Millar raises more than £1000 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Staff at leading Liverpool law firm Simpson Millar swapped court cases for canoes earlier this month to take part in a Dragon Boat Race, raising more than £1000 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Nicknamed ‘The Simpson Millar Slayers’, the team dove headfirst into the challenge, competing in three heat races before finally splashing out of the competition ahead of the finals.

The funds raised will now be donated to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, which provides vital cancer support to over 30,000 patients each year, including those who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of negligent exposure to asbestos.

Team captain Kirstie Bork, an industrial disease specialist at Simpson Millar, said: “I am so proud of our team. The atmosphere on the day was amazing, and while we didn’t make it to the finals our spirits weren’t dampened – not even by the freezing cold Mersey!

“By far the greatest success of the day was the team’s incredible fundraising efforts, which will go a long way to support cancer patients across the North West.”

A spokesperson from Clatterbridge Cancer Charity added: “It was wonderful to see team Simpson Millar Slayers take to the water for Clatterbridge at our first ever Dragon Boat Race, the races were very exciting against the dramatic backdrop of the famous Liver Building.

“We are extremely grateful for their support and hope they will return next year to take up the challenge again.”

More than a dozen colleagues from across the Simpson Millar took part in the challenge which took place on the Queen’s Dock in Liverpool on Sunday, September 10th, including colleagues from its Injury Division, its Public Law and Private Client team, and its HR and Support Service Departments.
