Dr Ben Spencer, MP of Runnymede and Weybridge, visited the Evri depot in Brooklands in Weybridge to tour the site and hear about the firm’s continued growth and its investment in sustainability initiatives.

The depot management team took the MP on a tour of the depot which is a fundamental part of the national operation which delivers 700 million parcels a year. This was then followed by discussions about Evri’s overall business performance, which has seen double digit growth over the past few years.

It was explained to Dr Spencer that to support Evri’s ESG commitment, the company chose Brooklands depot to trial its sustainable fuel initiatives including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as well as hydrogen. The initial trial using HVO began in April 2022 and has since expanded and is now being used by 26 HGVs and 26 vans at Brooklands depot, reducing emissions by approximately 90%. The trial of hydrogen will begin in July 2023, and will be powering a specially modified van used to pick up and drop off parcels at ParcelShops in the area. This is expected to reduce emissions by 100%, with zero CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) emissions.

Radoslaw Tarasiuk Depot General Manager at Evri, said: “I was delighted to have our local MP visit us today and to have the opportunity to showcase some of the initiatives we are trialling to make deliveries more sustainable. These are just part of our ambitious plans to meet our ESG targets as we are committed to being the most convenient way to send, receive and return parcels, without costing the earth.”

Dr Ben Spencer, MP for Runnymede and Weybridge added: “It was great to visit the Evri depot at Brooklands and hear about the encouraging sustainable fuel initiatives being trialled exclusively at the local site. Our logistics industry is vital to our local and national economy. A key challenge we face is to find ways to continue to support the sector while addressing the issue of air pollution and protecting our environment.

The work taking place in Brooklands is exciting and is helping lead the way on developing sustainable solutions. The Evri site also now employs over 200 people locally, boosting our local economy and employment.”
