Luisa Scott

Newcastle’s leading aesthetic lip expert, Luisa Scott, has unveiled a new innovative procedure for people with cleft lips. The procedure, which is being offered free of charge through Luisa’s award-winning clinic, Newcastle Skin Clinic, has already been cited as ‘groundbreaking’ and ‘life-changing’.

Every year, 1 in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and palate. Left untreated, it can affect speech and hearing. Cleft lip and palate are openings in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth (palate), or both. Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital disabilities and result when facial structures that are developing in an unborn baby don’t close completely.

Luisa Scott, a former surgical nurse who practised at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead, opened the Newcastle Skin Clinic ten years ago. It is now nationally recognised for its excellence in natural results and patient care.

Luisa Scott says, “I am constantly inspired and interested by the patients who come to the clinic – it’s a privilege to learn about their lives and journey. Aesthetics can be life changing. Through my training as a surgical nurse and aesthetics practitioner, I can help patients regain confidence following congenital disabilities or injuries from an accident. Providing free treatments for people with a cleft lip – and seeing their confidence grow post-treatment is one of the highlights of my job.”

The procedure involves injecting the filler into the lip in small amounts, using a very fine needle. The filler then integrates with the surrounding tissue and attracts water, which helps to create volume and smooth out the lip. The results are usually immediate and can last for several months to a year, depending on the type of filler used.

Carolyn Dunn was born with a cleft lip and palate and was introduced to Luisa by a friend in 2023. Speaking about the impact of this on her life, Carolyn says, “The procedure I had at the Newcastle Skin Clinic by Luisa has transformed my life. I was always self-conscious growing up, and it did impact some of my life choices – but since visiting Luisa, I feel confident and able to smile again.”
