A Staffordshire animal hospital has earned a prestigious national award in recognition of its eco-friendly practices and sustainability programme.
Linnaeus-owned West Midlands Referrals (WMR) in Burton on Trent has seen its ambitious green initiative rewarded with a silver award from Investors in the Environment (iiE).
Ann Staniland, sustainability lead at WMR, said the team were delighted with the coveted award: “We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously here at WMR and are always assessing and re-assessing ways to cut emissions, cut waste, embrace more reusable items and increase our sustainability.
“It’s extremely rewarding that the iiE has recognised all our efforts and hard work and we are all delighted to have achieved a silver award.
“We will keep striving to improve and our ultimate aim for 2024 is to push as hard as possible to achieve iiE’s ultimate recognition, a prestigious green award.”
A delighted Ellie West, sustainability lead at Linnaeus, said: “Many congratulations to Ann and the team at WMR on achieving silver level accreditation with iiE. I hope the whole team shares in the success and a sense of pride in your award.

Emily’s official assessment on WMR read: “West Midlands Referrals has maintained a good environmental management system and the team is clearly committed to improving the practice’s environmental performance.
“The practice has also implemented an excellent waste management system including switching to reusable and recyclable products and creating a space for staff to buy and sell upcycled items.
“In addition, WMR has undertaken several projects to enhance the environment and support staff wellbeing and communities.”
