A Manchester based recruitment firm has announced a significant partnership with Unity Community, a North West charity dedicated to supporting local families in need.
The City Recruiter’s collaboration aims to address the issue of food poverty by providing essential items to vulnerable individuals in the region.
Recognizing the importance of community engagement, the partnership seeks to raise awareness of families living below the breadline and encourage more people to volunteer their time and generosity to the cause.
To kick things off, the team at The City Recruiter have launched a monthly food donation day, where staff bring in items which are then given to the charity.
Nick Ryan, director of the recruitment firm based in Cardinal House, said: “Our goal through the partnership would be to spread more awareness about the issue.
“The charity’s work is inspirational and makes such a difference on a daily basis.
“Most people are fortunate enough to not worry about where their next meal will come from, but not everyone has that luxury.
“We’re confident this is the start of a long relationship with Unity Community where everyone works together for a common purpose.”
The charity’s efforts have been primarily focused on sourcing food for those in need every last Sunday of the month.
Typically, a team of volunteers purchase essential groceries from local supermarkets before the items are sorted and packed for distribution.
The contents include a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, milk, flour, sugar and cereals.
During the pandemic, the charity used to help around 400 families with many needing basic supplies and food.
Amal-Shaheen Feteh, a senior volunteer at the Manchester charity, said: “We’re really happy to be partnered with The City Recruiter. I think it will make a huge difference to many people’s lives.
“Among the places we’ve visited includes hostels and council houses, where its obvious families are in a difficult position and need help.
“Our food bank is a lifeline for many in Manchester, which is why any help is greatly appreciated.
“There are more and more people who apply for help, but a lack of funding and resource means we’re simply not able to support everyone.
“Families in need often hear about Unity Community’s services through social media platforms like Facebook and some are referred by doctors and women’s shelters.
“We’re hoping more people get involved and donate food or money because that allows us to purchase more things for those who really need it.”
