Volvo Cars has today announced sales of 615,121 cars for the full year of 2022, a decline of 12.0% compared to the previous year. Despite supply chain challenges and production restrictions caused by component shortages and Covid-related lockdowns in China, demand for Volvo vehicles remained strong. The share of fully electric Volvo cars reached 10.9% during the year, up from 3.7% in 2021.

In December 2022, Volvo sold 72,663 cars, an increase of 12.8% compared to the same month in 2021. Of these, 43.8% were Recharge models with pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with fully electric cars accounting for 20.1% of global sales. The number of active subscriptions at the end of the year was 49.0% higher than in 2021, and Volvo sold 17.0% more cars online in 2022 compared to the previous year, driven by increasing customer demand and a broader offer in more markets.

In the United States, Volvo sold 102,038 cars in 2022, a decrease of 16.5% compared to 2021. In China, sales amounted to 162,322 cars, a decline of 5.4% compared to 2021. In Europe, year-to-date sales decreased by 15.7% to 247,413 cars.

The XC60 was the top-selling model for Volvo in 2022, with 195,338 cars sold (compared to 215,635 in 2021). The XC40 was the second best-selling model with 169,206 cars sold (compared to 201,037 in 2021), and the XC90 was the third best-selling model with 97,130 cars sold (compared to 108,231 in 2021).
