A West Midlands hotel has been short-listed for a nationally-recognised hospitality accessibility award.

The Telegraph Hotel, Coventry, is on the shortlist for the Liberty Award/Best Boutique Hotel category at the upcoming Blue Badge Access Awards.

The winners of the BBAA’s, an award scheme showcasing those hotels which have gone above and beyond to provide stylish accessibility for disabled people across hotels, restaurants and other venues, will be announced on April 28 at a ceremony taking place at Hotel Brooklyn in Manchester.

It is the latest accolade for the hotel which was listed in the top 100 in the UK by the Sunday Times just months after opening last May.

The Telegraph Hotel is up against Hog Hotel in Lowestoft, Canvas & Campfires in Lampeter, Village in Basingstoke, A Little Bit of Heaven in Cornwall and Calon y Fferri in Camarthen.

Amy Windsor, General Manager at the Telegraph Hotel, said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted at the Blue Badge Access Awards.

“As the only four-star hotel in the city centre, quality and customer care is key to everything we do.

“Accessibility is at the forefront of our approach, and we are always searching for new and innovative ways to ensure the requirements of each individual guest are met and exceeded.

“As we were creating a hotel from scratch, we were able ensure that accessibility measures were designed in as part of that overall development.

“We have sweeping ramps, dual height access at check-in, DDA-compliant lifts, fully accessible ground floor toilets and a hearing loop in our common areas.

“We also created Freedom Rooms, which are beautifully planned with a range of accessibility features, to give our guests their freedom with no compromise on style, and they have attracted really positive feedback.

“Delivering a high quality of service for all our guests is our number one priority. I, along with another senior team member, are accessibility champions for the hotel, and we ensure that it is always at the forefront of our thinking. We are therefore delighted our approach has been recognised in this way.”

The creation of the Telegraph Hotel was a two-year, £20 million investment and renovation programme, which transformed a building that was once an iconic fixture of Coventry’s cityscape and housed the headquarters of the local newspaper, the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

The hotel features many of the building’s original elements and the design has a mid-Century feel, with many period details maintained and furniture from the 1950s included.
