Informal conversations within women’s business collaborations often lead to deeper understandings, stronger relationships that improve work-life balance. These casual interactions provide a comfortable space to share strategies and personal experiences, fostering a support system that extends beyond formal business dealings.

According to Business Matters Magazine, “The shared experiences, the wisdom of those who’ve walked before you, and the fresh perspectives of peers can provide a wealth of insight and rejuvenation. It’s not about leaning on others as a crutch, it’s about recognizing the strength of collaboration and the value of diverse viewpoints.”

When founder of LeaskAS, Julia Leask’s bespoke Fractional CFO consultancy for strategic business planning and financial forecasting and cashflow advice, refocussed and undertook a complete rebrand during the pandemic, Julia forged a collaboration with Tantamount co-owner Gwyneth Box which demonstrates this spirit of of mutual respect and connection.

Julia emphasises the importance of fostering relationships beyond the confines of the office. “Business is not just about transactions; it’s about building lasting connections and maintaining relationships. Our collaboration with Tantamount is a great example of mutual support and of how businesses can thrive when they support each other not only in the boardroom but also when we are having fun at community events.”

While both LeaskAS and Tantamount have international clients, Gwyneth underscores the importance of fostering local connections: “A great deal of brand success is due to the creation of community. Unsurprisingly, then, Tantamount believes very strongly in the power of community. And although we often work on a larger geographic stage, we are proud of our local connections and of our contribution to local and regional economic success.”

Providing a space for making connections and for informal conversation between clients, associates and other business colleagues is an important aspect of fostering the success of other businesses, an enterprise that Julia and Gwyneth both take very seriously. “It’s not just about the networks you belong to,” says Julia. “It’s about facilitating networks for others.”

As CEO at Moja Group, Sophie Milliken says in EliteBusiness Magazine, ”Business best friends offer a network of contacts and opportunities. They provide access to their own connections, expanding an entrepreneur’s reach and potential business partnerships. Collaborating with like-minded individuals opens doors to new markets, collaborations, and ventures. By leveraging each other’s networks, we can amplify our impact and create mutually beneficial opportunities.”

Tantamount is a creative design studio and has played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identities and communications of numerous businesses through its expertise in branding, marketing design, and content creation. While LeaskAS are members of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber, and Tantamount are members of the Solihull Chamber, and Julia and Gwyneth both actively participate in other local networking events and business initiatives strengthening bonds through informal conversations.

Women’s business collaborations like this involve mutual invitations to networking events, business gatherings, and award ceremonies. These invitations expand professional networks and provide opportunities to observe and learn successful work-life balance practices from a diverse set of professionals.

Recently, Julia sponsored a table at the prestigious Woman of the Year (WotY) awards and invited Gwyneth and other guests to join her and her business partner David in the recognition of the achievements of women in business, a subject dear to Julia’s heart. In exchange, Tantamount were among the sponsors of the 2023 Innovation Awards in Birmingham and again the collaborative spirit was in evidence at the table Gwyneth hosted at the Awards dinner, where Julia and David joined other guests from the wider regional business community.

Sophie Milliken continues, “While friends outside of business are essential, they don’t always understand the specific pressures of running your own business. They don’t know the stress of not knowing if you will make payroll, the excitement of waiting to hear back on a big deal or the thrill of winning a prestigious business award.”

Julia and Gwyneth have fostered a sense of community and trust, leading to a more holistic and fulfilling professional life. This environment allows them a more balanced approach to work and personal life, recognising that business success is intertwined with personal well-being. The effects of business friendships for women becomes a powerful source of resilience where they can learn from each other’s strengths and setbacks. This collective wisdom not only helps in navigating current challenges but also in building the emotional and professional support needed to face future obstacles, ensuring a more stable and adaptive approach to work-life balance.

While LeaskAS and Tantamount continue to flourish individually, their collaborative efforts strengthen the local business community. LeaskAS and Tantamount embody the spirit of cooperation that defines Coventry and Warwickshire, proving that when businesses come together, they create an environment for success that can benefit everyone.
