A northern accountancy firm has raised money for a leading children’s deafness charity by not speaking for a whole day.

Staff at Manchester-based TR Forensic Accountants wore noise cancelling headphones during their silent shift to simulate the experience of hearing loss and raise money for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

The firm’s whole team came together on Friday 31st May, communicating only through written emails and notes.

After silently venturing around their office building in Cardinal House with a bucket, they managed to collect £150 for the charity in cash donations.

Tanzeel Rehman, Founder & CEO of TR Forensic Accountants, was inspired by his own children to organise the event.

He said: “In June 2021, I lost one of my twin babies after she spent the first four days of her life in an incubator. I never got to hear my daughter’s voice, and she might have never heard mine.

“My son is going to be three years old this year while my daughter was never given the chance to grow up. Children are very close to my heart and have been since I lost one of mine.

“I chose to raise money for the National Deaf Children’s Society to be able to support other children. They may also never have heard their parents’ voices, just like my baby girl didn’t get to hear me.

“We had signs on the buckets explaining we couldn’t hear or talk, and people’s generosity was amazing to see. I’m grateful to everyone who donated.”

The National Deaf Children’s Society supports any deaf children who may need it, regardless of their level, type of deafness or how they communicate.

The charity seeks to overcome the social and educational barriers that hold deaf children back by pushing boundaries, asking tough questions, and standing beside families.

Tanzeel added: “This was a very rewarding experience. I’m so proud of everyone on the team for their hard work and dedication when it comes to supporting a cause close to my heart.

“I’m glad we were able to work together to raise some money that will be used to help children live the full and happy life they deserve.

“Seeing the team come together to make a difference fills me with immense pride. It’s truly inspiring to witness the impact we can have when we unite for a meaningful cause.

“It made me profoundly aware of the blessings we often take for granted. Spending a day in silence, I couldn’t help but reflect deeply on those who navigate life without hearing. It was an incredibly humbling and eye-opening experience, filling my heart with empathy and gratitude.”
