Hydes flagship ale Lowry took gold at the awards

Salford-based Hydes Brewery has picked up three major awards at the North West Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Beer Awards 2022.

In the cask pale ale category, Hydes flagship cask ale, Lowry, was awarded the gold award. Brewed when Hydes relocated to its Salford brewery in 2012, Lowry is a beautifully crafted 4.7% ABV golden ale, a fitting tribute to the genius of world renowned local artist LS Lowry. The use of pale ale malts with citra and chinook hops combines bitterness with citrus fruit and tropical flavours.

Dark Ruby won bronze in the cask session dark beer category. A very dark ruby red beer, this 3.5% ABV beer harks back to the traditional dark ales of yesteryear. The finest ingredients are used to derive a roasted sweetness in flavour with added caramel to provide a toffee finish and a dark red colour.  Dark Ruby is an easy drinking, sessionable beer with one foot in the past and the other planted firmly in the future.

Bronze was also awarded to Hopster Blonde in the cask session pale ale category. The newest addition to Hydes’ core range of beers, it’s a zesty blonde-coloured modern beer initially based on the steampunk movement and like Hydes, combines the traditional and the contemporary.  With a 3.8% ABV, ingredients include malt, wheat and flaked rice with plenty of citra hops for a zingy, citrus hit.

The SIBA Independent Beer Awards represent the very best beer from the UK’s independent brewers and are judged by fellow brewers and industry experts making these awards the ‘Brewers’ Choice’ awards in the UK.

Hydes competed against scores of brewers from across the whole of the North West region to scoop the awards, judged by brewers and beer experts.

Managing director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers said: “We’re very proud to have picked up three awards for our ales and to receive such prestigious recognition from SIBA. All three are part of our core range of beers which all received new pump clip designs as part of a brand refresh in 2021. After two years of challenging trading across the brewing industry, it is testament to the hard work and commitment of the talented Hydes brewing team to achieve such outstanding accolades for our beers.”

Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of over 40 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.
