UK-based smart technology and digital provider Connexin has ranked 2nd in the Top 100 league table at the annual Northern Tech Awards, a remarkable 14 place jump from 2023 (16th) and a staggering 28 places from 2022 (30th).

Run by GP Bullhound, the annual league table celebrates the fastest growing and most promising tech companies in the North of the UK. Taking the impressive number two position, reflects the company’s incredible successes not just locally in its hometown of Hull but nationally too.

Scaling nationally

Earlier this year, Connexin was awarded £58.6 million in government funding by Building Digital UK, as part of Project Gigabit, to rollout lightning-fast fibre broadband to over 30,000 rural homes in Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire. With Connexin committing support to local initiatives in charitable volunteering hours, career mentoring and apprenticeship programmes to a diverse range of candidates in these communities too.

Connexin was also selected by Essex & Suffolk Water for the UK’s largest IoT advanced water metering infrastructure (AMI) framework contract, to manage the rollout of up to one million smart meters across the Essex and Suffolk supply regions.

Brand growth

A key part of Connexin’s growth story is the acquisition of three businesses over the past two years. Two local internet service providers were acquired in the continued efforts to extend fibre broadband connectivity throughout Hull and the wider East Riding of Yorkshire region. Enabling more customers to gain access to best-in-class broadband services and turning Connexin into one of the largest alternative network (Alt-Nets) providers in the North.

As part of its commitment to upskill the nation’s workforce, Connexin also acquired Encompass Training, one of UK’s largest training providers, merging with Connexin Academy, the company’s training and development business unit. This move strengthens Connexin’s ambition to boost digital skills and accelerate employment opportunities for the nation.

Supporting Hull

Closer to home, Connexin announced the launch of a new game changing all-in-one business broadband solution designed specifically for SME businesses in Hull. The company also reinforced its commitment to the area by extending the Hull KR shirt sponsorship deal, and becoming the five year principal partner of Connexin Live, the newly rebranded live entertainment venue in Hull’s city centre.

Ralph Varcoe, Chief Growth Officer at Connexin, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to take the number two position in this year’s Top 100 League Table at the Northern Tech Awards. This considerable jump year on year reflects our commitment and drive to bridge the digital divide with our broadband, IoT and training offerings.

We are a tech company doing big things, but we never lose sight of where we have come from so will continue with our passion to boost the local economy and support our city to thrive. I want to thank our team in making this a reality and I look forward to another exciting year ahead.”
