Leicestershire housebuilders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brought a taste of the tropics to the county with a ‘safari trail’ hosted at its New Lubbesthorpe development in Leicester.
The safari trail, organised by the Parent-Teacher Association at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School, had residents making colourful displays of animals outside their homes to be viewed by following a map.
The developer has awarded a first prize £100 voucher to winning resident, Lucy Thorpe, for her creative white lion display.
Lucy said: “We had such a fun time taking part in the Safari with creating our animal display. We are amazed to have won amongst all the brilliant creations dotted around Lubbesthorpe. We were thrilled at the number of people who came to see our display, and it was lovely to see the community come together to help raise money for a library at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School.”
Lucy’s imaginative display included a white lion leaping from the bushes on her driveway with a base camp theme constructed nearby – complete with ration supplies, binoculars, camouflaging foliage, camp chairs and hiking boots scattered haphazardly as if in an attempt to escape the homemade king of the jungle.
John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We were thrilled to be able to help the PTA at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School with their need for a first-place prize.
“The safari trail was a fantastically creative event and we were pleased to see our residents turning their hand to making striking displays to bring the community together.”
Other displays on the safari trail included a giraffe who had a basket for people to drop leaves in to feed, a tropical jungle themed display with parrots, a whale, and a swan placed on a mirror with lily pads to represent water.
Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, added: “Lucy is a much-deserved winner of the £100 voucher and her lion display was excellent. We pride ourselves on our developments having strong community spirit and we’d like to thank the PTA at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School for organizing this wonderful event.”
