Darlington MP Peter Gibson recently met with local award-winning Site Manager, Scott Iveson, to learn more about Scott’s accolade for his hard work on Barratt Homes’ The Orchard at West Park.

MP Peter Gibson was welcomed onto the development by Barratt Developments North East’s Managing Director Carl Sobolewski, Construction Director Scott Lester, and Pride In The Job award-winner Scott Iveson.

During the visit, Mr Gibson learnt more about Scott’s award win, which highlighted his work rated against a strict criteria of technical expertise, health and safety, consistency, leadership and attention to detail. Mr Gibson also had a discussion with the team on the progression of the development, and received an insightful tour of the site.

With over 75% of the development now sold, Mr Gibson was keen to understand the popularity of the development amongst the local residents, and how Barratt Homes continue to provide high quality and affordable properties for residents in the area.

During his visit, the Darlington MP was also shown how Barratt Developments is using timber frame construction for the build of a number of its new homes as a way to reduce its average build time and enhance energy efficiency levels, saving local homeowners over £2,200 in energy bills each year.

Mr Gibson also expressed an interest in learning about the many activities that the housebuilder conducts with the local community, including the recent 100-mile charity cycle, which began at The Orchard at West Park and raised over £3,000 for local children’s charity, Team Evie.

Amidst the changing housing market, the team also explained the sales schemes that are available for buyers on the development, designed to ensure that both existing homeowners and first-time buyers are fully supported in the house-buying process. This includes the innovative Part Exchange scheme that allows buyers to sell their existing home to Barratt Developments, and alleviates any estate agent fees at the end of the sale. As well as the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme and Armed Forces Help to Buy, both of which will further benefit potential buyers that fit the criteria.

Peter Gibson, Member of Parliament for Darlington, commented: “It was an honour to meet with the award-winning Scott Iveson, and hear first-hand on all of the hard work that he’s put into our local housing development. The development provides much-needed, high quality housing for Darlington residents, as well as plenty of fantastic schemes to help people step on, or up, the property ladder, which is crucial to the area more so now than ever. I look forward to seeing how the site will continue to develop over the coming months, alongside the community in which Barratt Developments play a pivotal part in supporting.”

Scott Iveson, award-winning Site Manager for The Orchard at West Park, commented: “It was fantastic to welcome MP Peter Gibson onto the development, and show him how far it has come since his first visit last year. The Pride in the Job award win is another demonstration of the success of the development, and we’re so pleased to have welcomed so many customers who now call it their home. We’d like to thank Peter Gibson for taking a keen interest in our work.

“The team on the development continue to create high-quality and energy efficient properties, as we support the local people of Darlington and meet the need for more housing in the area. I’m proud to be part of an amazing site team and thankful for everyone’s hard work and dedication.”
