For many consumers, the consequences of fast fashion and its impact on the environment are a growing cause of concern: with over 50% of shoppers in a recent survey rating sustainability as important or very important to them, when making a retail purchase. In response to this new trend, an eco-conscious jewellery startup is re-defining the idea that being stylish has to come at a cost to the planet, with its range of hand-finished, gold-plated jewellery: all of which is made from recycled 925 silver.

Founded by Ruth Morris during the summer of 2020, Influenstar Jewellery stocks a range of earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets and rings. With a rising demand for more sustainably sourced fashion and jewellery, the brand’s mission is to help reduce the waste and unnecessary usage of new resources and educate its customers on their environmental impact: all without compromising on style, quality or durability.

Ruth explains:

“As a lifelong lover of fashion and jewellery, I was delighted to finally launch Influenstar last year. However, amidst the planning and preparations during the pre-launch, I was horrified to learn about the excessive waste and damage that fast fashion contributes to the planet. The fast fashion industry contributes 5% of the world’s global greenhouse gas emissions, which is equal to the total impact of the entire aviation industry!

Whilst many brands are introducing ‘conscious’ or ‘sustainable’ lines or ranges of products, my vision with Influenstar was always to ensure that our entire inventory only consisted of jewellery pieces that utilise recycled materials alongside eco-friendly packaging. This way, we’re doing as much as possible to offer our customers a more sustainable option than fast fashion and helping to educate them on consumer responsibility,’ she added.

For Ruth, a Midlands-based mumpreneur, it was important to offer customers both affordable price points and high quality goods in comparison to less ethical, fast fashion alternatives. With pieces retailing from as little as £18 and shipped in FSC®certified packaging, Influenstar’s recycled accessories are accessible and stylish options for an eco-conscious fashion lover.

“If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is to think more proactively about the future of the planet. As a mother of two, this shift in consumer consciousness resonated with me deeply: I’m determined to do what I can to minimise Influenstar’s impact upon the environment, across every aspect of the business.”

Influenstar’s jewellery pieces retail from £18 – £75, with a range of earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets and rings available to purchase on its website, as well as e-gift cards. Most recently, singer-songwriter Ella Henderson was spotted wearing some of its pieces during televised appearances on The Graham Norton Show and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.
