Six-figure funding deal supports acquisition of water safety services firm
A Staffordshire based legionella and water safety consultancy firm has become one of the first businesses to receive funding from the British Business Bank’s Community ENABLE Funding (CEF) programme through lending specialists BCRS Business Loans.
Pete Tyson Consultancy has secured a six-figure funding package to acquire environmental compliance company Qube Environmental. The two businesses will be merged and trade as Qube Environmental to form a Stoke-on-Trent based operation delivering water treatment compliance and safety services across the UK.
Qube Environmental specialises in supporting businesses, landlords and property owners, with advice ranging from water safety and legionella control to asbestos management and compliance planning. The company was originally founded by husband‑and‑wife team Judith and Ashley Richardson. Following Ashley’s passing in 2023, Pete Tyson worked closely with Judith to deliver training and support.
The acquisition will allow the newly combined business to broaden its environmental compliance offering and strengthen its presence across the region. In addition, the funding package will safeguard seven roles, with ambitions to grow the team further as part of a long‑term strategy to diversify into new markets.
Operating since 2002, BCRS Business Loans will draw upon the Community ENABLE Funding programme to offer loans ranging from £25,001 to £250,000.
The lender also delivers loans on behalf of the British Business Bank through the Midlands Engine Investment Fund and Investment Fund for Wales.
BCRS Business Loans operates as a not-for-profit community development finance institution with a focus on supporting underserved small to medium sized enterprises, particularly in deprived areas and among underrepresented social groups.
Managing director Pete Tyson commented: “After 27 years in the water treatment industry, my ambition has always been to build a successful, growing business that makes a real difference to the organisations we support. The acquisition of Qube Environmental is a major step forward in that journey.
“BCRS have been fantastic throughout the process and genuinely committed to helping us realise our ambitions. Their funding package has enabled us to invest in our future, expand our team and strengthen the services we provide across the UK.”
BCRS Business Loans chief executive Stephen Deakin, said: “We are delighted to support Pete Tyson as one of our first businesses to receive funding from the CEF programme. Qube Environmental is exactly the type of business we want to support and we’re proud that our funding has helped support the next stage of their journey.
“At BCRS, our mission is to ensure no viable business goes unsupported, and this investment demonstrates the positive impact that accessible, relationship‑driven finance can have for SMEs across Stoke‑on‑Trent and the wider region.”
Reinald de Monchy, Chief Banking Officer, British Business Bank, said: “This six-figure funding deal is a great example of how the Community ENABLE Funding programme is helping smaller businesses access the finance they need to pursue their ambitions. By supporting Pete Tyson’s acquisition of Qube Environmental, the funding is enabling the business to take an important step in its growth journey, while supporting the continued provision of vital water safety services. We’re pleased to see the programme helping businesses across Staffordshire invest, grow and realise their potential.”
