Blenheim Palace estimates £30 million ‘Summit Effect’ with rise in international visitors

Last month (18th July 2024), Blenheim Palace was the location for the UK government to host the fourth European Political Community meeting (EPC). One month on, the UNESCO World Heritage Site has reported an impressive rise in international bookings and visitor figures following the high-profile gathering of world leaders and monarchy. ‘The Summit Effect’ has led to an estimate that a £30 million boost will be seen into the local economy from the event.

Staff at Britain’s Greatest Palace described an incredibly busy period, with visitors queuing at the door to see the rooms which hosted not only 45 world leaders but also HM King Charles III, who arrived mid-afternoon for the European Political Community Summit, and hosted a special reception in the Palace’s Long Library. It was the first visit by a monarch to the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill for 88 years.

As well as an increase in international tourists and in new group bookings, visits to the Blenheim Palace website were up by 45%, while the Palace’s catering team reported a vibrant weekend of service across its cafes and restaurants, including the newly renovated Orangery.

The feedback we have received has been great and it’s clear that the ‘summit effect’ of hosting this globally historic event will benefit the local economy for months to come.

“As well as an increase in local tourists, we suspect and have already seen that this will have a huge impact on international and group visits in the coming years which is incredibly important to spread and preserve the heritage of Blenheim Palace, as ticket sales enable vital restoration and conservation.”

2024 prices for group visits start from £37 for a Palace, Park and Gardens adult ticket and must be booked in advance. Blenheim Palace offers discounts for group bookings of 15+ and free admission for one group leader. There is also free all-day coach parking, a free admission voucher for commercial coach drivers plus a £5 voucher for them to use in the onsite cafés.

For Groups that prefer to experience a more personal touch, Blenheim Palace offers private guided tours of the State Rooms with an expert Palace Guide. Prices start from £250 per guide per group of 30 people. All private tours are subject to availability at set times of the day and pre-booking is essential.
