Advanced Employee Health Screening Service Launched To Help Tackle Sickness ‘Crisis’

Professor Sir Chris Evans OBE, founder of EDX Medical

A new health and wellbeing screening service to help businesses keep their employees healthy is to be launched in the UK.

Employees will be able to undergo a battery of advanced tests for a wide range of major diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders as well as having a general health check.

The employee screening service developed by EDX Medical, a Cambridge-based medical diagnostics company, comprises a series of comprehensive panels of individual biomarkers.  These panels of tests range from 40 to 80 biomarkers covering more than 100 disease conditions.

Test results are to be computed along with employee health and family history questionnaires to generate an extremely accurate and useful picture of an individual’s health status.

EDX Medical has reached agreement in principle with three significant UK employers, which have a total of 14,000 employees, to undertake health screening, subject to final documentation. Testing is expected to commence in Q4 this calendar year.

EDX Medical will deploy its experienced team of nurses and logistics managers to undertake the testing sessions in the workplace and deliver a follow-up service which includes the provision of advanced diagnostic tests if required by an employee.

Professor Sir Chris Evans, OBE, founder of EDX Medical, commented: “We are delighted to announce the launch of a corporate health and wellbeing service and there is a great demand from employers and employees for a service that is accurate and affordable. We are very pleased that major employers are immediately supportive of our service and we are in discussion with several other leading UK businesses.

“EDX Medical has been developing the panels for more than 18 months and designed a unique range of biomarker testing panels which we believe offer a more comprehensive and price-competitive testing range compared with other diagnostic services available in the UK or Europe. Our tests have regulatory approval, and the biomarker panels are perfectly designed to monitor a comprehensive range of major diseases that could seriously affect the health of employees. It is abundantly clear that early detection of a range of diseases can be transformative for both employee and employer.

“As a diagnostic company with experience of testing in the workplace, it is clear that corporate health screening of employees is growing in popularity because it dramatically decreases long-term absenteeism and loss of productivity while at the same time improves loyalty from employees who appreciate their health being actively considered by their employer.”

An estimated 148.8 million working days were lost because of sickness or injury in 2025, according to the Office of National Statistics, and official estimates state £130 billion is lost annually to the UK economy, driven by lost working capacity, recruitment costs, and decreased output.
