A new survey commissioned by Blenheim Palace has revealed that almost one in five (19%) of Brits who watch period dramas have binge-watched for an incredible five hours or more in one sitting.
The Ipsos poll* also found that 71% of respondents watch period dramas for the historic locations, while almost two-thirds (65%) watch them to learn more about the past.
Blenheim Palace is no stranger to period dramas; the UNESCO World Heritage Site has been used as a filming location for the Netflix and Shondaland Bridgerton spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, in which it was the backdrop for key scenes set at Buckingham House.

Blenheim Palace, a key location in the hit series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, has announced that costumes featured in the Bridgerton spin-off by Netflix and Shondaland will be on display from 11th September to the 5th November 2023.
Visitors wanting to learn more about the past can immerse themselves in more than 300 years of history with a wide range of tours and activities – and for those wishing to combine the two, Blenheim Palace has true historical connections to Queen Charlotte and King George III, who were close friends of the owners, the 4th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough.
Further findings of the survey of over 2,000 adults aged 16-75 found that:
● 31% of British adults aged 16-75 watch TV period dramas
● 42% of women watch period dramas compared to just 20% of men
● Among TV period drama watchers, almost 2 in 5 (39%) of those aged 16-34 agree that watching period dramas has shaped their expectations of romance
● Period dramas are most popular in Greater London (where 36% of respondents watch them), Wales and the North West (35%)
