Chelmsford is gearing up for a fresh fitness arrival this Christmas as Body Fit Training (BFT) launches a new studio in the city.

BFT delivers its science-backed group training programme through purpose-built studios, combining strength, cardio and functional movement in highly effective, coach-led sessions. Every workout is structured to help members progress, offering a blend of variety, expert guidance and a strong sense of community that keeps people motivated and coming back for more.

For BFT Chelmsford’s co-owner Andy Gilhooley, the city was a natural choice. “Chelmsford has always felt a bit like a second home ever since my sister was at university here back in the day. It’s a place I’ve always loved, so bringing BFT here just felt right.”

Located on Dukes Walk, the new studio will sit in the heart of the city, crucially just minutes from Chelmsford station, offering easy access for shoppers, commuters and local residents all looking to build fitness into their daily routine.

“We wanted somewhere central and welcoming – a spot people can naturally fit into everyday life,” added Andy.

For husband-and-wife Andy and Teresa Gilhooley, opening BFT Chelmsford is the start of an exciting new chapter. Andy comes from a background in hospitality but found his true passion in fitness, earning his instructor and PT qualifications before the couple decided to take the leap into opening a studio.

Teresa was drawn to BFT’s science-led approach and strong community feel, and together they travelled to Australia for training – an experience that strengthened their drive to bring an authentic BFT vibe to their Chelmsford studio.

With the launch quickly approaching, the focus is firmly on the community. “Our aim is to bring that trademark BFT energy to Chelmsford and create a space where people feel comfortable, supported and able to get a little bit better every single day,” explained Andy. “Right now, all our attention is on making this studio the best it can be – but in the future, who knows, maybe we can open more studios in the area.”

What drives him most is the impact BFT has on people. “The best thing about BFT – and hopefully our members will see this straight off the bat – is the real difference it makes to people’s lives. It’s inspiring, it’s motivating – and, just as importantly, it’s a lot a fun,” concluded Andy.
