Colchester Rovers Cycling to Host ‘Back to School’ Circuit Race

Colchester Rovers Cycling Club is set to mark the end of the summer holidays with a meet of the region’s most promising young cyclists on September 1 at Colchester Sports Park.

With race categories ranging from Under 8 to Under 16, the highly anticipated ‘Back to School’ Circuit Race will welcome youth riders of all ages. The first race will start at 9:30am and, with over 40 riders already signed up across the age groups, organisers are expecting a fun, competitive, and well attended event.

Simon Wilson, Colchester Rovers’ Youth Development Coach, shared his enthusiasm for the event: “The purpose built cycling circuit at Northern Gateway is a great place for young cyclists to experience racing for the first time. The ‘Back to School’ meet will also welcome youth riders who are experienced at racing national level events.”

Simon continues: “The costs involved in hosting a race meet like this, from hiring the track to paying to have a certified first aider on site throughout, can have a prohibitive effect on participation in our sport. It makes a huge difference to have the support of local businesses such as TWI and we are extremely thankful for their sponsorship of the ‘Back to School’ race meet.”

TWI, a Colchester-based marketing agency, is a key sponsor of the event. Andrew Butcher, Operations Manager at TWI, spoke about supporting the event. He says: “It’s a privilege to support grassroots sport and in particular an event like ‘Back to School’. Having been invited to Colchester Rovers club training, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication these young cyclists bring to their sport and how welcoming and supportive the cycling community is as a whole.”
