An innovative social housing project which regenerated a former derelict school into much needed social housing has been completed.

The development is the site of the former Short Street Infants’ School in Burton on Trent (Stapenhill) and has been transformed into 21 affordable homes from Trent & Dove Housing.

This social housing new build scheme in the Midlands is the latest development to feature Russell Roof Tiles thinner leading-edge products in a region renowned for small format tiles.

Trent & Dove Housing offer affordable homes across East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, and North West Leicestershire. Russell Roof Tiles was appointed by the project’s developer, Mercer Building Solutions, as the manufacturer has a proven track record in supplying roofing for social housing projects across the UK and is local to the site offering excellent service levels.

Work on the development began in March 2019 and is now complete, comprising of six two-bedroom houses, seven three-bedroom homes and eight two-bedroom bungalows for rent and shared ownership.

Russell Roof Tiles supplied its Lothian tiles in Slate Grey due to its thinner leading-edge aesthetic, slate appearance, and reliability. Lothian pitched roof tiles form part of Russell Roof Tiles’ Natural Range of products – an expanding selection of thinner leading-edge interlocking concrete tiles.

At two thirds the thickness of a normal tile, thinner leading-edge tiles are one of the thinnest and lightest concrete tiles available, making them easier to handle than traditional products on the market.

Social housing is one of the fastest growing sectors for Russell Roof Tiles and over the last 12 months, the manufacturer has supplied products for over 130 social housing and extra care projects across the UK.

Ross Hayward, Area Sales Manager at Russell Roof Tiles said: “As the demand for social housing continues to increase, we are seeing a number of specifiers and contractors request our sustainable and cost-effective tiles.

“Our high-quality products and technical expertise have ensured that Trent & Dove Housing benefit from long-lasting pitched roofing products for a number of years.”
