England Rugby star returns to former Surrey junior school to deliver sustainability message to students

England Rugby and Exeter Chiefs Women’s star, Claudia Macdonald, has returned to her former junior school in Surrey to share her journey to rugby success, along with her passion for sustainability with the students of Wallace Fields Junior School.

As well as becoming a renowned rugby player, Claudia is Sustainability Ambassador for PE, the largest independent energy supplier in the UK. In this role, Claudia is helping to spread the message about the importance of making small, sustainable differences within our daily lives to make a big collective difference.

“As a young child, I was always interested in sustainability, and making greener choices wherever and whenever I could,” said Claudia Macdonald.  “This passion has stayed with me into adulthood, and led to me launching the Let’s Talk 1% blog, highlighting the 1% changes we can all make to have a huge impact on our planet. By joining forces with PE, I hope our collective voices on this subject will help catalyse greater change, today and into the future.

“Returning to my former junior school, and in fact where my mum taught for many years, is an opportunity to help inspire and excite our younger generations so they too can join the sustainability journey, even by taking the smallest of actions.”

Mr Steve Lee, headteacher at Wallace Fields Junior School, said: “The children are inspired by Claudia in so many ways including her motivation to achieve success and consideration for sustainability in all the things we do as a school, a community and as individuals. Lovely to see Claudia again and I know she has very fond memories of Wallace Fields Juniors and that special bond was evident during her visit. Claudia’s positivity, enthusiasm and drive are conveyed with such passion that the whole school are excited to be working together to make our school greener and actively pursuing sustainability.”
