The whimsical and earth friendly fair for ethical independent designers and makers, Good Makers Fair today announces its first event, set to launch this month at Islington Square. An affordable mini outdoor pop-up, the fair champions designers with unconventional stories, all having founded exceptional, directional and ethical brands.

Taking place over three weekends – 29th – 31st August; 5th – 6th September and 12th – 13th September – Good Makers Fair, which is open from 11am to 5pm daily, brings together a plethora of creators all working in unison to create an engaging shopping experience that furthers their voices and broadens awareness of their brand values. To add another dimension, the final two weekends are co-branded in collaboration with ethical marketplace Seekd.

The brainchild of Good Makers Fair, MAMATER founder Marilyne Kékéli describes why now and why these brands: “Designers in general struggle to find affordable places to sell their products and that difficulty doubles when it comes to designers of colour and those with diverse backgrounds. Rather than pay an exorbitant amount to have a shelf in a store – a shelf that will sit amongst so many other products that don’t necessarily even share the same messages as mine – I wanted to reclaim the right for us to feature ourselves in a pop-up experience that connects us with the right customers.

COVID-19 has hit us independents very hard, entrepreneurs of colour even harder, so although the high-street is still a long way off being back to ‘normal’, I wanted to ensure that we are some of the first to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and say yes, we are open and we can’t wait for you to shop with us.”

Taking place within the remarkable heritage space turned public quarter on Upper Street Islington Square, brands showcased will include everything from ethical jewellery to soy candles, as well as luxury footwear. With prices ranging from under £10 to around £200, Good Makers Fair is the perfect pitstop to kickstart your Christmas shopping.

The first of an ongoing campaign to help the public educate themselves on how to live fulfilling sustainable lives, Good Makers Fair plans to roll out further pop-ups and events, showcasing the best of the best of diversity in techniques, design and ethics.
