Kingston raises over £5K for Diabetes UK

A property management company has raised over £5,000 for Diabetes UK following a year of fundraising.

The total was achieved through a series of events and initiatives involving colleagues from Kingston and its estate management division, Open Spaces, and sales and lettings agency, Living Spaces.

Amy Scott, Open Spaces Estates Manager Team Leader and designated ‘Charity Champion’, co-ordinated the year-long programme of fundraising and brought colleagues together for a variety of activities, which included office fancy dress days, bake sales, bingo cards, and a tombola.

The most memorable event was a sponsored walk along the Northumberland Coast Path, which raised an incredible £2,500 thanks to generous donations from colleagues, friends and family, and subcontractors.

These funds will support and help to raise awareness of Diabetes UK’s vital work in funding research and providing better care for people living with diabetes.

Amy said: “My daughter, Eva, was diagnosed with type one diabetes around three years ago. Until her diagnoses, I hadn’t realised how life changing diabetes was and how severe the effects can be if not properly managed.

“I’ll never forget the look of hope on Eva’s face when a team of fundraisers spent time talking to us about research on an artificial pancreas. I thought fundraising through work would be a great way to support their amazing work.”

Each year Kingston colleagues choose a charity to support for a full calendar year, and a ‘Charity Champion’ volunteers to organise and drive fundraising.

“It has been an absolute pleasure and a lot of fun organising the events,” continued Amy. “Everyone has been so generous and got on board with every event, and we have had huge support from our contractors as well, which is amazing.

“I knew when we started in January that I wanted to smash the £1000 target – I never imagined we’d reach over £5000! Thank you so much to everyone involved.”
