A post-consumer glass recycling initiative developed by Morley Glass in conjunction with Saint-Gobain Glass has been shortlisted for a prestigious award, putting it in the running to be named as one of the best companies in its home county of Yorkshire.
The company has been named a finalist in the ‘Sustainable Ethical Manufacturer Award’ category of the Made in Yorkshire 2024 Awards. This is an annual awards programme which highlights excellence in businesses based in Yorkshire and the Humber, with previous winners including Senior Aluminium Systems, Gripple and the UK’s largest caravan and holiday homes manufacturer Swift Group.
The shortlisting recognises the Morley Glass post-consumer glass recycling scheme as one of the best sustainability initiatives in the region over the past 12 months, reflecting the collaboration between the Yorkshire-based firms involved.
Morley Glass is based near Leeds, where it crushes end-of-life double glazed units collected from window and door installers into cullet (crushed glass), which is then used by Saint-Gobain Glass to manufacture new energy efficient glass at its Eggborough factory near Selby. Even the state-of-the-art machinery developed to crush intact double glazed units into high quality cullet in one process was created in the region by Hull-based Concept Engineering.
Revenue generated through the production of cullet is also used to benefit community initiatives seeking to deliver environmental and social benefits, the vast majority of which are also located in Yorkshire.
In being shortlisted for the sustainability award, Morley Glass is hoping to repeat its success in two industry awards programmes during 2023, at the G23 Awards and GGP Installer Awards. The company received accolades in both awards these programmes in recognition for how the scheme provides a viable approach to diverting waste glass away from landfill.

The winners of the Made in Yorkshire 2024 Awards will be announced at a presentation ceremony taking place on 7th March 2024 at New Dock Hall in Leeds.
