Moresby Hall Hotel, Whitehaven - Cumbria

A stunning historic Cumbrian manor house, Moresby Hall which is popular with locals and tourists alike has been given a new lease of life as the former guest house gained new owners earlier this year.

Moresby Hall’s history dates back as far as medieval times and has been run as a popular guest house for many years. In August this year, new owners Jo Arthur and Steph Eilbeck set to work on revamping the property.

Sharing her delight at this new journey in their life, new Co-Owner, Jo Arthur commented: “Myself and Steph were delighted when our offer on Moresby Hall was accepted.”

“The property has so much history and is already very popular. When it came on the market, we saw how much potential the house has and before we’d even put an offer in, we were bursting with ideas of what we could do to put our own stamp on the house and enhance the guest experience even further!”

The country manor house is based in the quaint Georgian coastal town of Whitehaven, which is full of interesting cultural and local heritage for visitors to enjoy. Since gaining ownership, Jo and Steph have rebranded the hotel – marking some of the changes guests can expect to see in this next stage of Moresby Hall’s story.

Fellow Co-Owner, Steph Eilbeck added: “Since officially launching as Moresby Hall Hotel in September, we’ve been overwhelmed with support from the local community, local businesses and our wonderful guests and team.

“Already, we’ve made some major changes including refurbishing the reception rooms and the dining room and we’re continuing to make further improvements throughout the hotel for guests to enjoy.

“In just a short time on our new journey, we’ve been delighted to welcome many hotel and restaurant guests already. We’re also excited to be opening bookings to host weddings, special events and functions, which is something we’re honoured to offer as Moresby Hall is a perfect venue for such special occasions and we are committed to providing an exceptional, unforgettable experience”.

If you want to see the beauty of this historic, Grade 1 listed manor house, which is credited by English Heritage as one of Cumbria’s most important buildings, thanks to its fascinating history and architecture – the hotel is now open for overnight guests. Or you can pop by the restaurant to enjoy a dish from the tasty new menu. Steph and Jo have also launched a delicious Sunday Lunch menu – which is already proving so popular, pre-booking is often required!

To celebrate the new journey they’ve started this year, Steph and Jo are hosting a big New Year’s Eve ‘Posh frocks, fizz and fireworks’ party this year – welcoming guests to book on to enjoy an 8-course meal and magical evening entertainment!
