Both Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud and John Legend – All Of Me have topped the charts when it comes to the UK’s most popular first dance song, it has been revealed ahead of wedding season.

Research conducted by River Thames cruise and dining experience, Bateaux London, has discovered the nation’s favourite wedding songs, with Thinking Out Loud and All Of Me coming out on top, each ranking a total of 9,900 average Google searches a month in the 12 months.

Despite more modern songs topping the list, there seems to be a growing resurgence for songs from the 1960s at weddings, with Elvis Presley – Can’t Help Falling In Love rounding out the top three, and a boost in searches for Etta James – At Last in the last year.

First dance songs mean big business for musicians. Based on Spotify* streams, Ed Sheeran has earned $7.7million (£5.7million) from streams of Thinking Out Loud alone. Whereas John Legend has made a cool $6.6million (£5million) from All Of You.

Looking at data released from Spotify outlining the most popular wedding songs, combined with Google search data from the past 12 months, Bateaux London was able to identify the top 15 most played wedding songs.

Claire Bedouin, Marketing Manager at Bateaux London, said: “This year is set to be huge for weddings due to many couples putting off or rearranging their special days following the pandemic.

“In the UK, it’s forecasted that there will be around 350,000 weddings taking place across the country this year, which is why we wanted to identify the most romantic wedding songs to help couples with their planning.”

From an intimate wedding ceremony at its licensed waterfront wedding venue to a larger reception space on one of Bateaux London’s cruises, the River Thames offers an iconic and ever-changing backdrop to a couple’s special day.
