Ryan Boosts Exeters’ HR Landscape
HR professional Ryan Gay is delighted to announce he has taken over as owner of HR Dept Exeter. Ryan studied HR at University and has spent the past 11 years in various HR roles, both in-house and consultancy.
“I realised after having experienced both in-house and consultancy roles, the latter was the pathway for me. I love the variety of working with a wide spectrum of clients and having the ability to genuinely make a difference to small businesses. I had been planning on relocating to Devon from Bristol for the previous two years and we finally made the move in March this year.
I have held the ambition to own my own business for much of my career in HR. Exeter felt like the ideal place to pursue this, given it’s the largest commercial hub in the county. Through discussions with the HR Dept central office regarding what territories were available in the Devon area, I was made aware that the previous owner was looking to move on, so it felt as if the stars had aligned.”
HR is all about people. The variety of opportunities and challenges that employees bring is where Ryan feels he thrives.
“I love being able to make an impact, whether that be supporting a client with a challenging employee relations issue or designing and implementing bigger projects such as a new appraisal system or a staff engagement survey.
Operating on a consultancy basis affords me the opportunity to utilise all of the experience I have gained over the last 10 years to support clients with both their operational and strategic HR needs”
The HR Dept is a franchisee network of 70 licensees providing outsourced services in 120
territories in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. It was created in 2002 after founder and executive director Sue Tumelty identified a market gap to offer personalised expert HR solutions to local businesses. The first HR Dept office was in Bristol, which has since become a worldwide establishment.
Across the network, The HR Dept’s licensees provide high-level experience at an affordable rate for growing businesses that need expertise but have neither the need nor the budget for an in-house HR team.
The company also provides a viable option for experienced HR practitioners looking for a better work-life balance and a new challenge after working in corporate life. As the UK’s largest network of HR professionals providing outsourced HR support, the HR Dept is incredibly proud to welcome Ryan and cannot wait to support him in his journey.
It’s great to see someone of Ryan’s experience offering HR services in his region. We wish him all the best operating the licence and are sure he will make it a great success.”
Felicity Kenny, Managing Director of The HR Dept
