S&R Construction backs battle of the political heavyweights in Dudley charity boxing showdown
S&R Construction has been praised for its generosity in backing this year’s Dudley Charity Boxing Showdown.
The event, taking place at Dudley Town Hall on Friday, will see Dudley Council leader Councillor Patrick Harley step into the ring against former councillor Shaz Saleem.
Both have undertaken months of intensive training ahead of this eagerly awaited clash that will raise thousands of pounds for local charities, including We Love Carers, Stourbridge Town FC’s Floodlight Appeal, Brierley Hill Baby Bank and The Leukaemia Unit Appeal Fund supporting the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital.
A keen backer of local boxing talent, S&R Construction joins Brindley Capital as platinum sponsors helping to bring the event together.
“We are very passionate about our Black Country roots, and I’m delighted to add our backing to this ‘knockout’ event,” Chris Sankey, Director of S&R Construction.
“There’s a lot of interest in boxing at our company. From chatting to our team, we’re all fully behind Cllr Harley in his bout with Shaz Saleem in what is arguably the biggest ticket in town!
He continued: “As well as raising lots of money for charities, the evening will also place the spotlight on some fantastic local fighting talent.
“Every year, we provide more than £20,000 of funding in sponsorship and donations to good causes, ranging from supporting Compton Care and the Combat Hub Wolverhampton to Help Hary Help Others and providing trips to the seaside for children. It is important that we have a positive impact on the communities we operate in.”
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, added his support: “The charity boxing showdown is all about people coming together to support important local causes, and we are incredibly grateful to S&R Construction and every business that has sponsored the event.
“Without the incredible support of our sponsors, this event simply would not be possible. By meeting the full cost of staging the charity boxing showdown, they have ensured that every single penny raised on the night will go directly to the mayoral charities. That is an extraordinary commitment from the local business community and one we are immensely grateful for.”
S&R Construction and Brindley Capital are joined by gold sponsors Dudley Motors, Thomas Dudley and IPL Schoeller, while GMB Union and Fun City Dudley have signed up as silver sponsors.
Supporting the event at a bronze level are Richardson’s, Jewson Partnership Solutions, Racking UK and Sports Shop Kingswinford.
The sponsors represent a broad cross-section of companies operating in and around Dudley and have all recognised the importance of supporting organisations that make a real difference to local people and families.
Event organisers say the response from the business community has been overwhelming, reflecting the strength of support for both charities and the competitors who have dedicated themselves to months of training.
Councillor Pete Lowe, Mayor of Dudley, concluded: “Having seen the commitment and dedication Patrick and Shaz have put into training for this event over the past few months, I know just how much hard work has gone into preparing for fight night.
“What makes their efforts even more special is that they are doing it to raise money for a range of worthy causes, with all fundraising split between my charities and those of my predecessor, Cllr Pete Lee.”
Located in its new £8m headquarters in Kingswinford, S&R Construction provides multi-utility services, groundworks, traffic management and open market housing development to clients across the UK.
The family-run business has experienced significant growth in recent years, breaking the £51m turnover barrier for the first time and creating 50 new jobs in the process.
